Getting to the Highalnds
Exploring the Highlands and Inverness
Welcome to the Highlands, a place of breathtaking natural beauty, ancient landscapes, and stories that stretch back centuries. This rugged yet enchanting region is known for its towering mountains, shimmering lochs, and a rich tapestry of Scottish culture. At the heart of the Highlands lies Inverness, a charming city on the banks of the River Ness, often called the “Gateway to the Highlands.” Inverness is home to historic sites, warm Highland hospitality, and serves as the perfect starting point for your journey deeper into Scotland’s captivating northern landscapes.

Navigating the Highlands
If you’ve never been to Scotland before and plan on exploring, please bear in mind that our wedding venue is at least three hours away from the major international airports. However, fear not—the scenic drive through the Highlands promises breathtaking photo opportunities and rest breaks amidst rolling hills and stunning landscapes.

Alternatively, for a more direct route, consider flying from London or Manchester to Inverness Airport, which is only a 30-minute drive from the estate.

However you can rent a car, or take public transport (such as trains) from them to Inverness.

Alternatively, for a more direct route - consider a flight from either London or Manchester to Inverness Airport.

If you're planning to drive to join us and stay on the estate, Achnagairn has some parking available for guests. Please let us know if you're planning on bringing a car and we'll provide you parking information closer to the date. ​
Trains are available throughout the UK to Inverness Station. Direct routes are available from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen via ScotRail.
You can find train times and purchase a ticket through Trainline from anywhere in the UK.

Achnagairn is approximately a 20 minute drive from Inverness City Centre.
The main bus service in Inverness is provided by Stagecoach, and the primary bus running between Inverness and Achnagairn is the 28 and the 28A. If you take this bus, you will need to get off at the Kirkhill stop for Achnagairn. You can find the current timetable here, however we recommend downloading the Stagecoach app to get up-to-date times.
There are a number of taxi companies operating in and around Inverness. Uber and ridesharing apps are likely to be limited or entirely unavailable so we recommend relying on taxis instead. Here are details for 3 companies, however many more are available in and around Inverness

Staying at Achnagairn

We’re excited to welcome you to Achnagairn Castle and Estate, a beautiful and unique venue with a range of accommodation options. If you’d like to stay with us on the estate, we recommend reserving your spot early, as rooms are limited. You can do so when you RSVP.

Achnagairn offers charming rooms within both the main castle and surrounding mini manors, each with a distinct style and layout, right on the doorstep of our celebrations.​
Castle Rooms
Each room within the castle is unique, featuring its own decor and ambiance. Some rooms have private, en-suite bathrooms, while others share facilities with nearby rooms. Rooms range in size from single rooms up to family suites. All rooms within the castle also have access to a catered breakfast each morning
Mini Manors
Achnagairn’s six mini manors each have shared kitchen and living spaces, creating a cozy, home-away-from-home for you to enjoy. There are two manors with six rooms each, and four manors with five rooms each. For those traveling in groups, we’ll try our best to place you together, though we can’t guarantee specific arrangements.

For those in the Mini Manors, breakfast is not catered, however all manors have a full kitchen and we’ll be stocking them with some basic essentials ready for your arrival.

For those who prefer to stay nearby or would like to look at alternative options, here are a few hotels within close reach of the castle. There are also a number of B&Bs and holiday lets in the surrounding areas so we suggest to look around as well and see what you can find!

The Priory Hotel is a three-star Visit Scotland rated hotel located in the picturesque village of Beauly in the Scottish Highlands, no more than a short drive north of Inverness and just off the breath taking North Coast 500 driving route.

The AC Marriott

Where modern comfort meets Scottish charm in the heart of the Highlands. Situated where the River Ness meets the Moray Firth, their hotel stands as the largest in Inverness, just a short walk from the railway station

Blackfriars
Inverness
Built in 1793, Blackfriars is a newly refurbished bar, restaurant and hotel that is conveniently located on Academy Street. With nine boutique bedrooms, Blackfriars offers comfort and luxury in Inverness’ historic Old Town. Their head chef has created a range of delicious dishes with a focus on local provenance, showcasing some of the finest Scottish produce on the market.
